Formed in 1939, the 750 Motor Club styles itself as 'the home of affordable motor sport'. Its foundation was racing cars built to a formula using Austin 7 components, including its 750cc side-valve engine. Today the Club runs a large number of different formulae for all manner of cars. The original 750 Formula has changed over the years to suit the availability of suitable mechanical components and currently uses 1100cc FIAT engines. Well known racing personalities that cut their teeth in the 750 Formula include Lotus creator Colin Chapman, Lola's Eric Broadley, Cosworth co-founder Mike Costin, Grand Prix driver John Miles, Formula One design engineers Gordon Murray and Len Terry, and Clubman's car producer Arthur Mallock.
The Historic 750 Formula is the formula that today is most closely aligned to the roots of the Club. In this formula Austin 7-based cars race alongside cars powered by Reliant 750cc and 850cc OHV all-alloy engines. Another class caters for cars powered by 500cc engines while others that raced in period with engines such as the Ford side-valve 1172cc and Coventry Climax 750cc can also take part.
